What is Sound?

Sound is a way of life, and it is used each and every day. Whether it is when on a business call, driving your car (radio, horns, engine noise), talking with your significant other, listening to a sermon or worshiping with all your heart. Sound is unique for every person alive. We hear things like, "Turn that down", "Turn it up", "I can't hear (insert any instrument)". Sound is the essence of worship in the church, and just as every person will worship in their own way, they will hear sound in their own way.

Recently on a mission trip to Australia I was able to experience a worship service with some pretty pumped up Aussies. I mean jumping up and down, arms in the air, all for the glory of God. It is truly amazing that there can be some many ways to worship God in one church, yet the sound is all the same. We need to realize that worship is not for us. It isn't so we can look good and proper on any given Sunday. We as adults need to take lesson from the children in our church (or in the church in Australia). We need to worship without inhibition, all to the glory of God. If that means raising our hands, swaying to the music, or dancing to the beat ... then as Nike says, "Just do it."

We are after all worshiping to the "Audience of One", and to Him true heartfelt worship is a pure and beautiful song to His ear.
